This is my route to escape Bangkok towards Singapore via Phetchaburi, a distance of 139 kilometers with only 16 kilometers on busy Highway 35.
Route: Southwestern route that takes you from Bangkok (Bearing station of BTS Skytrain) to Amphawa and Phetchaburi.
Download GPS file here (Zipfile contains .gpx file format)
Length: 139km
Configuration: Point to point.
Notes: In Bangkok, get on the first BTS train at 6:00am. Traveling on the first train of the morning will help you avoid heavier city traffic and crowds. Also, the Chao Phraya river ferry will be operating by the time you arrive.
DAY 1 –
- Start at BTS BearingĀ (Here is how you take your bicycle on the BTS Skytrain)
- Cycle 8 kilometers down quiet roads to the Chao Phraya ferry landing
- Cross the river by ferry at Samut Prakan (only 20-30 Baht for you and your bicycle!)
- Ride back roads with some tricky bits until you reach Highway 35
- Cycle Highway 35 for 16 kilometers from Samut Sakhon to Amphawa. I recommend going to Amphawa rather than planning to stay in Samut Sakhon.
Spend the night in Amphawa, then ride on to Phetchaburi, or even Cha-am/Hua Hin, on DAY 2. Amphawa is a quaint area to visit and a great place to stay overnight with plenty of accommodation choices.
DAY 2 –
- Cross Highway 35 and visit the PTT gas station to stock up on water and cycling snacks
- Cycle quiet roads to the provincial capital of Phetchaburi
- Phetchaburi has plenty of accommodation choices and a few tourist attractions worth a visit
