The Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Cup Tour of Thailand
Stage 5 – Phayao Lake to Phayao Lake 134 kms
April 5, 2014 – The OCBC Singapore Pro Cycling Team sustained its momentum at The Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Cup Tour of Thailand, as Mitchell Mulhern (13th), Eric Sheppard (37th), Goh Choon Huat (40th) and Ho Jun Rong (56th) all finished within the peloton in Saturday’s Stage 5 and kept pace with the General Classification leaders.
Sebastian Mora Vedri of the Matrix Powertag Team won the stage in a time of 2:55:32, while the OCBC’s leading quartet finished 22 seconds behind Vedri.
Sheppard managed to hold on to fifth place in the General Classification (GC) standings and lurks 22 seconds behind Team Hong Kong-China’s Cheung King Lok in the chase for the yellow jersey.
“The boys showed great tenacity and rode aggressively,” said Justin Cheong, Team Manager of the OCBC Singapore Pro Cycling Team. “We have one final stage to show what we’re capable of, and we will do our best to make our mark on the General Classification standings.”
Goh remains the highest-ranked Singaporean in the General Classification standings in 12th place, 1:37 off the lead, while Cameron Bayly, Ho and Mitchell currently rank 73rd , 78th, and 84th, respectively. Bayly finished 84th in Stage 5.
The Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Cup Tour of Thailand concludes with Sunday’s Stage 6, a 140.8-kilometre ride which will start at Phayao and end at Chiang Rai, the northernmost large city in Thailand. Read about Stage 6 here.
