Pakkred is a great area of Bangkok for riding, both road bike and mountain bike. Most Pakkred riding is a mix of road riding on quiet country roads, and a small amount of dirt track through some fields (ie, mud track when it’s been raining). So if you want to do the dirt tracks, you probably will be best on a mountain bike with offroad tyres, even though it’s pancake-flat here. It’s worth stopping at the riverside restaurant at Wat Toey (the starting point) for lunch after the ride, the food there is excellent and reasonably priced.
How to get to the start point of this ride (Wat Toei) in Pakkred (Pak Kret) from Bangkok:
Take the 2nd stage expressway north to Chaeng Wattana Road and exit left for Pakkred.
After 3km pass Home Pro and Carrefour on your left.
Get into middle/outer lane to take the ramp up towards the Rama 4 Bridge and Chaiyapreuk Rd at around 3.5km.
After crossing the river keep left and in about 1km at a klong bridge take the U turn under the road.
Head back towards the river, keeping in the left lane (do not go up onto the bridge).
Close to the river turn left and follow the winding road for 200 metres to Wat Toei.
Park on your right by the market and pay the parking attendant B20.
Alternatively:
Take Ratchaphreuk Road from the south.
Pass through the massive yet very nicely decorated Hash roundabout on Nakhon In Road (zero odometer).
Continue north towards the junction with Chaiyapreuk Road.
Go over Rattanatibet Road at 5.7km and at 11km left follow signs for Rama 4 Bridge and Chaiyapreuk Road to your left. The tight anti-clockwise turn takes you onto Chaiyapreuk Road toward the river.
At about 15km look for sign for Wat Toei and get into left lane before the Rama 4 Bridge ramp as above.
Close to the river turn left and follow the winding road for 200 metres to Wat Toei.
Park on your right by the market and pay the parking attendant B20.
