Hi, Like me, is motivation a problem riding on your own? I have been road cycling in Phuket for 6 years now and have established a number of varying morning rides ranging between 45 to 100 klms and thus far have met up with a few fellow riders with similar pursuits. We all reside in the south east region of the island and meet at 6.00am most days outside the Chaofa Road East gate to Land & House in Chalong. Monday to Saturday rides vary between 40 and 60 Klms and Sunday is a slightly longer session up to 100Klms+. Coffee and/or breakfast is a daily option after each Monday to Saturday ride and normally a mid-ride destination on Sundays. Aside from there being safety in numbers by being more visible to other road users whether you are a visitor or local and road cycling is your thing you are welcome to join our group and whilst we can all push a bike down the road, the camaraderie and coffee is what we are about. Cycle fitness is the side benefit!!! If you wish to check us out we arrive at Coffee Cycle, Click Plaza, Sunrise Road, Chalong at 7.30am Monday to Saturday. Baron.

Also, don't forget that most cyclists living in Phuket have the beautiful provinces of Phang Nga and Krabi nearby. Both offer great mountain and road biking opportunities and both are host to cycling events throughout the year. Watch our EVENTS calendar to find upcoming events in your area -http://bicyclethailand.com/events/

The Thanyapura sports club/resort conducts weekly rides in Phuket and Phang Nga.

Also, there are plenty of road cyclists who have weekly training rides - Stop in and make inquiries at shops like Bike Avenue, Siam Bike Tours, and You Can Bike.

IF mountain biking is your thing then check out the monthly rides put on by the Phuket MTB Hash Club

Baron, when in Phuket we stay with the Marriott in Mai Khoa and have cycled many times down the 402 past the turn off (Pier Rd) to Coffee Tribe in Chalong but were not aware of it... does it have a signpost on 402/  If not, I strongly reccommend they constuct one... the tourist and visitors like us staying in Mai Khao and evirons always on the look out for some variety .. end up having post ride coffees and breakfast at the Coffee club in the Turtle Village at Mai Khao as we were not aware of the Coffee Tribe that is so close to Mai Khao.... will definitely visit it next time ....

Apologies, I just realised after doing the post above that Chalong is not close to Mai Khao but a long way away....

Hi Jackie,

Missed this post earlier. Yes I know the Coffee Club at Turtle Beach / Mai Khao very well, it is one of the Sunday destinations we have frequented regularly over the few years here. Coffee Tribe is a fairly new business in Chalong and roughly 50 to 55klm from Turtle Beach which makes for a good return trip distance and an enjoyable mid-ride break. You run into a lot of riding groups along the way who like to flex their muscle and test your stamina which is also an enjoyable part of that journey.

Keep well and hope to catch up at some time.

Regards, Baron.
