Hi, Any suggestions for a quiet back-roads 3-4 day cycling route from Bangkok to Aranyaprathet? I'm quite keen to avoid the main roads where possible. Thanks David

Hi folks.
I'm now a few weeks into my Bangkok-to-Saigon ride and thought I'd post an update.
Instead of going fairly directly from Bangkok to Aranyaprathet and then on to Siem Reap as I thought I might do at one stage, I rode around the south-east coast through Bang Saen, Jomtien and Ban Phe, then headed through Chanthaburi and across into Cambodia at Pailin. From there, I rode up to Battambang and caught a boat down the Sangker River and across Tonle Sap to Siem Reap. I spent a few days looking around Angkor before heading down to Phnom Penh via NH6. I'm currently in Kampot. The final leg of the trip will be through Ha Tien and Rach Gia on the south-west coast of Vietnam, then up to HCMC via Can Tho and My Tho. It's been a great trip - dry, flat (except for the ride between Chanthaburi and Pailin), easy cycling, friendly people and wonderful scenery en route, and no flat tyres or bike problems!
Some daily cycling stats and a few photos on http://bangkoktosaigon.wordpress.com
Keep on cycling!
David

Thanks Ulysses. Trip over. It was a great experience! I'm now trying to re-adjust to 'normal' life back home and at work. I've updated the blog entries to include links to route maps, and have also added a tour summary page and a gear list page. Keep up the good work on the website. Best wishes David

I've just revised the title of this topic from 'Route from Bangkok to Aranyaprathet?' to 'Bangkok to Saigon' to better reflect its subject. There's been some interest shown from Thailand in the trip report (http://bangkoktosaigon.wordpress.com) - 677 views over the past year according to the Wordpress stats. I hope the site has encouraged some folk to venture out on their bikes into the beautiful Thai countryside! A young Brit recently completed the same route, but in reverse. His trip report is at http://uk.virginmone...m/laurie_baxter

It was a solo ride, Jackie. Well worth doing if you ever have the opportunity!

Nice ride and nice blog. Thanks for sharing your info and experience.

I am also cycling BKK to Saigon but as I cannot take long stratches of time off work I am doing it bit by bit. I have made it to Sihanoukville in Cambodia over the new year holidays.

I have gone a different way though, I have done all the costal road until the border at Hat Lek / Koh Kong. Very nice roads. From Koh Kong I' ve gone through the Cardamon mountains and then arrived at Sihanoukville.

Next stage I will go Kampot and then probably follow a similar itinerary to the one you did.
