I never can remember the names of the different provencies, and looking at a map doesn't always help, especially when all I have is my cell phone.   When all I want is to look at a map and know how far away from a bike shop I am at that very moment, the shop section of this website can be less helpful. Don't get me wrong, while on the home computer, planing where to go it's great, but when that mid ride blow out kills your spare and tire, or for what ever reason you need a bike shop right away and your not familiar with the area, figuring out what shop is nearest to you can be difficult. So today I made this Google map using the GPS data from the shop section of this site (and I credited you guys too). Took a lot longer then I planed, but I finished and hope you guys can get some good use out of this as well.

I will be adding a few extra shops I know about, like the BMX place I found near the On Nut BTS station in Bangkok the other day that does bikes and tattoo's, as well as 5 or 6 other places I found recently. And I ask if any of you know of any local shops, or maybe can get the GPS location for the shops that are on the shop page, but don't have it, that you send me the shops names, store front picture, GPS location, and maybe a picture of a business card so I can send it to bicycle Thailand so they can add it to their list, and I can drop it on the map.

To make it easy to hand info over to the bicyclethailand.com, this is what they need to add a new shop to the shop page.

Name of Bike Shop (If the shop has a website please include)
Full street address of shop
Tambon and Amphoe (or Khwaeng and Khet if inside Bangkok)
Zip (postal) code
Telephone number
GPS location: Please use this type of format N 13 50.262, E 100 39.829 (this is the most accurate and although conversions can be made from other formats the results could be up to 100 meters off the mark).

Thanks guys and gals,

Happy Trails

Thanks Dayne!

We're happy to see cyclists getting great use out of information made available on BicycleThailand.com

The map is super convenient. Keep up the effort and keep on riding /wp-content/forum-smileys/sf-cool.gif

Will do. Sending 4 bike shop info packets to you guys in a few minutes, as well as the gps location of a couple of your shops that are listed, but without the info. Thank you for all your hard work gathering the info you already did.

While this is nice and practical, it's still an island solution for a limited group of user who know about this map. Why not put all the data into openstreetmap? This way everyone works on the same database and much more people are using and know about the data. There is a cycle mode were all bike suitable tracks stand out as well as bike shops.   http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=13.7144994735718&layers=C&lon=100.554084777832&zoom=14

I keep hearing about this open street map thing. But I have very little knowledge about it. The reason I chose Google maps is that it is standard on all major smart phones(Android, Apple, I think even BB uses it standard, Microsoft obviously is pushing their own service), and it is the standard internet mapping tool I have used in the last 10 /15 years. I made this with your average rider in mind, who may or may not have a high end (or low end) cycling computer with mapping capabilities, but like many people today probably has a smartphone of some kind in their pocket or bag. It is savable on your phone as a personal map, it is open and searchable on Google, and I knew how to use it and that it has a wide user base, thanks to Google's efforts in the last 15 years or so. That being said, I am aware that this open street map thing is being used for cycling related apps on phones in other countries, and as Google still doesn't have a working bike mode (in Thailand anyways) I would love to know more about this OSM thing. Feel free to PM me, or email me via the address in the description section of the link above. Or just post it here. If there is a mapping tool that has more use then Google maps, I would love to know more about it.   Please do share this map in the mean time, so that it can get out to more people. I did see some shops on your link that I don't have so I'll have to add them and check out the ones I can later.

My only advice is to give the local Canondale shop a wide miss. They're not nice to deal with.
